Andruw Jones v. The Disabled

So it's June, you're playing at Wrigley, two outs, runners in scoring position. Who do you send to the plate: Andruw Jones or Jim Abbott? The answer's clear: you let Abbott hit.

Over the course of his career, the one-armed bandit hit .250 in the month of June. His clutch numbers are even more stunning: with 2 outs, RISP he hit .400, and at Wrigley Field, he hit a sparkling .500. Compare those with Andruw's comparable stats from this season: .131/.211 /.231.

It could be argued that Jones provides the opportunity for more power. However, this is a fallacy. Abbott once hit a triple off Rick Reuschel in 1991 spring training, probably sliding feet first, and Mariano Rivera once said that during batting practice Abbott used to hit balls into the bleachers at Yankee Stadium one-handed.

Plus Andruw is sort of fat now.
